Thankful Thursdays!!!

If any of you know us, or follow my twitter, (@mrsjlrussell) you know that 1 week ago TODAY my hubby Ryan's car was stolen. His pride & joy, after all of his hard work & precautions, was taken right out of our garage.
On that same day we had a HUGE scare with the baby. We spent 5 hours in the hospital thinking Melissa was going to be rushed into emergency C-section. It has definitely been a hard week.

This blog is in memory/hope for "Bo" & and good Prayers for Annaise.

We also going to follow along behind other fellow bloggers, and use this as an opportunity to remind ourselves what we still have, and show our thanks!

Each Thursday, each of us will give 2 things we are thankful for.

Baby Shower Success!

After months of planning, cramming, inviting, creating, and stressing the baby shower is FINALLY over!
We had quite a few people show up and even though I was a little stressed out
(okay more than a little)
that things wern't as together and organized by 2pm like I wanted, but everything flowed together pretty well in the end!
We met new friends, had great food, everyone had a blast playing games, and Melissa was so happy I thought She'd never stop smiling!

We played a few games:
(IMelissa & I had gone to the party store and stoked up on a whole bag of fun penny toys as prizes!)

Who's that Baby?:

Before games start, go around and make sure everyone has a name tag with their real names on it. (This helps for ice-breaking, so works good for a beginning game!) Prior to the party, create a piece of paper with numbered lines for roughly the amount of people who will be attending the party. On your invite, ask that guests also bring along (or email ahead of time for printing) a baby picture of themselves to the party. have a collection box somewhere when guests walk in the door to deposit pictures in when they arrive. Try not to let people "show-off" their pictures before hand. When everyone has arrived, and mingling, start hanging the pictures to an easily accesible wall. once all the pictures are hung, take numbered post-its and place them each correspondingly with a baby picture. When all babies have been numbered, provide each guest with previously made number paper & a pen. Then allow guest to continue mingling while trying to also figure out which numbered baby matches which person in the room, writing thier name next to the correponding number on the list.Remind everyone NOT to give any answers away! (While they are working, Walk around and quietly ask everyone which number their baby picture is and write down on your own paper for and "answer list") When everyone feels they have had enough time, have everyone join around and call out the number and the PROPER name for each baby! Person with most correct Wins!

Team BabyButt: Get into equal groups (depending on group size) and everyone in the group chooses their favored hand. Each group is handed a baby and a "Diaper" (we used washcloths folded once to make a triangle) and 3 safety pins.  The goal: when the host says "GO" everyone in the team is to work together, each person using one hand ONLY to secure the diaper on the baby! go until the first team wins!

Clothesline Chaos!:  Before party, hang a long line of twine or clothesline between two points that are accesible. (like to trees in the yard) Have a pile (5 seems to work good) of cheap (dollar store) baby clothes, Clothespins, a baby doll, and a toy cellphone. Each player gets one minute to hang as many clothes on the line as the can while holding baby and "talking" on cellphone at the same time. Most clothes hung properly in the shortest time wins!

Pin the baby on the Preggo: Prior to party, cut out baby heads from magazines and have in a box. allow each guest to pick "thier" favorite baby. Using scotch tape, mark an "X" right on (Preggo) guest of honors shirt right about where her belly button is. Shower host should stand next to Preggo with safety pins.

Each player is blindfolded, spun, and directed towards Preggo with a pointed finger. they must try to find mommy's belly using just the sound of her voice. first place their finger touches, is where host will pin the baby head.

(REMEMBER: Hosts! please protect Preggo from harm or unwanted "groping", help your guests out a little by assisting in the guidance.)

Once all baby heads are placed, the pin closest to the center of the "X" wins!

Dont say Baby!: Before the party, have simple string or twine necklaces with a loop for each guest to wear. attach 5-10 paperclips to each necklace loop. Guests must refrain from saying the word "baby" for enitre party. If they do, the guest that "catches" them can steal a paperclip. (any other synonym for baby can be used.) Near the end of the party, have guests count how many paperclips they have left. Person with the most, wins!

In the end, things went great. Melissa and everyone else had a blast and Melissa didnt do to bad on the presents front either! ;)
(More on what she GOT tomorrow!)

We had alot of fun, and now are even MORE excited for the BIG FINALE! :)

Always start on a MONDAY!

For some odd reason, since I was a kid I would never start anything new during the middle or end of the week.

Always start on a Monday.

Though I'm not completely sure why. Wether it be a new eating plan, exercise routine, a job search, or starting a new scrapbook, I would always wait till Monday. I would write it out on paper all weekend until I had my exact "plan-of-action" decided. I would make sure Sunday night that what ever I needed for the current project was set out and ready for the early day. (its okay, I'm only a little OCD) ;)

So why would writting a blog start any differently?

So Here I am late Monday night tap-tap-tapping away because I feel like this NEEDS to get done tonight or I will never keep up with it... (Sheesh)

So let's intro:
Legos In My Pocket is the day-to-day moments that file together oh so chaotically for two young married couples living under the same roof. Their ups, their downs, the funny, the grumpy, messy, & all the in-between.

Let us introduce ourselves:

 Ryan & Jaimie

Ryan & I (Jaimie) met October 2002 in high school.
I was almost sweet16 and Ry was creeping on 18.

We met through a mutual friend who was actually introducing me to Ryan to get his opinion on me because the friend was interested... (oops!) Un-aware of our friends plans I was instantly intrigued by Ryan's "tough-boy" exterior.

I naturally began flirting (like any 16 year old girl would for a cute boy) and tried to play coy...
He was wearing a pair of giant dark gray South Pole sweatpants,

"I like your sweats. I want in them, they look comfy..."

(Sadly I was actually serious. I had always had a weird thing for sweats & PJ-pants)

but without hesitating Ryan looked at me and smiled, and pulled the waistband out like he was showing off how much weight he had lost and replied

"Hop in."

You would think this would come off very cocky..but instead..he was extremely goofy about it, & I couldn't help but laugh. I was hooked since then.

Now it will have been 8 years on November 1st and this year we will be celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary on the same day. <3

Anthony & Melissa

Anthony & Melissa met in March 2008. Melissa was 17 and Anthony 21. They met through a mutual friend (Daryl) who Melissa and been almost dating at the time.
Daryl and Melissa had hit a real rough patch, and things were not looking good. Since they weren't actually even dating yet, the fight was a little bit of a red flag for Melissa.
Anthony, who is Daryl's best friend had been over and was trying to help by talking Melissa (who he barley knew) through what was happening. He was so sweet & patient with her that she was instantly intrigued. She had never had someone she didn't even know be so nice to her.
That night Anthony gave Melissa his number in case she still needed someone to talk to.

They started texting each other daily and after about a week they got into a conversation realizing how much they have in common.

"Your so perfect! Can I keep you?" Anthony sweetly texted her

Melissa had instant butterflies.
"Of course you can!" She giggled...
And the rest is history.
