MFB Question of the Week

4. What had been the most horrifying place that you found hair (even just one) growing out of your own flesh? Did you show it to another member of the human race or shamefully and silently remove it?

Oh boy... well. I have unfortunately gone through this, but to my bestie Melissa's delight,
I was NOT alone. I actually wasn't even the one to discover the random abomination. nope. That was HER pleasure.
I had JUST confirmed that indeed my frequent mood swings & tummy sourness was in fact pregnancy, & we were out at WINCO with our husbands. It was very busy, & we were trying to hurry through the produce section. I was in deep conversation with Mel when her face got all screwy. She reached up to grab what she THOUGHT was a dog hair off my chest... when in fact it yanked from my skin in a very uncomfortable manner. I yelped quite loud, which caused both our husbands (& a few random others in the store) to turn to see what had happened. The exchange of horrified looks traveling between Mel & I at that moment were priceless as what had JUST happened sunk in. Especially when I finally realized what it was.. & in fact WHERE it had came from.. & that she was still HOLDING it with her hand suspended between us..
AND IT WAS HUGE!!

"OOOOH MY GAAAWD!! HOw in the HELL was that growing from the middle of my CHEST!!"

Melissa in this moment, like any other best friend would, burst out in uncontrollable laughter. I instantly covered the space below my collar bones in fear that there where more while tears welled up in my eyes.
The husbands came to the rescue, swooping us to an empty aisle where I could collect myself & promptly beat my still cackling best friend.
BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
-_-

What about you???

EasyPeasy Baklava

Legos In My Pocket

Okay now I've posted up this recipe before for a photo-swap, but I thought I would go a little more in depth for you all today! This is one of my most requested recipes!

Warm, melty, gooey, yummy,
BAKLAVA
Prep: 30 mins     Bake: 40 mins     Yield: 4 dozen

& It's SO super simple!!

 Is your mouth watering yet???

Mine is, so lets get started!

 What you need:

1-1/2 pounds finely chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1 pound butter, melted, divided
2 packages (16 ounces each, 18-inch x 14inch sheet size) phyllo dough
Syrup: 2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1 cup honey
1 tablespoon grated lemon or orange peel

1. In a small bowl, combine the walnuts, sugar, cinnamon, & cloves; set aside. Brush a 15 inch x 10 inch x 1 inch baking pan with some of the butter. Unroll each package of phyllo sheets; trim each stack to fit the pan. cover dough with plastic wrap & a damp cloth while assembling. Place 1 sheet of phyllo in pan; brush with butter. Repeat 14 times.

2. Spread with 2 cups walnut mixture. Layer with 5 sheets of phyllo, brushing with butter between each. Spread remaining walnut mixture. Top with 1 sheet of phyllo; brush with butter. Repeat 14 times.
(I saved a tiny bit of the walnut mixture, & sprinkled over the top layer when finished.)

3. Cut into 2-1/2 inch squares; Cut each square in half diagonally. Brush remaining butter over top. Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.

4. In a large saucepan, bring syrup ingredients to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer for 10 minutes. Strain & discard peel; cool to lukewarm. Pour over warm Baklava.

 Enjoy!!

MFB Question of the Week

3. Do you take pleasure in embarrassing other people? And why are you like this?

I'm only like that with close friends... we all do it to each other. But we make sure not to take it to far, that & none of us have ever been shy to say when we have had ENOUGH of a certain joke. It works for us, we always have fun, & we do our best to keep it DRAMA FREE.

Pomegranate-Champagne Punch

Pomegranate-Champagne Punch

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup pear nectar
  • 1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur, such as Grand Marnier
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) Champagne

Directions

  1. In a large pitcher, combine pomegranate juice, pear nectar, and orange-flavored liqueur. Slowly add Champagne. Serve over ice.

Cook's Note

We used Champagne in this punch, but other sparkling white wines, such as Prosecco, are equally festive and just as good.
